Small scale palm oil refining process:

The first step of small scale palm oil refining process is hydration degumming. Hydration degumming is a degumming method that uses the hydrophilicity of the colloidal impurities such as phospholipids to mix a certain amount of water or electrolyte dilute solution into the crude oil to make the colloidal impurities in the crude oil swell, condense and separate. In the hydration degumming process, phospholipids are the main substances that can be coagulated and precipitated. In addition, proteins, mucus and trace metal ions bound with phospholipids are also removed.

The second step of small scale palm oil refining process is alkali refining, which contains a certain amount of free fatty acids in all kinds of crude oils without refining. The process of removing free fatty acids from oils is called deacidification. During palm oil refining process, the most commonly used deacidification methods is alkali refining.

The third step of small scale palm oil refining process is oil decolorization. It is to use some substances (such as bleached soil, activated clay, activated carbon, etc.) which have strong selective adsorption on pigments to absorb pigments and other impurities in oil under certain conditions, so as to achieve the purpose of decolorization. The oil treated by adsorbent not only achieves the purpose of improving oil color and removing colloid, but also provides good conditions for palm oil deodorization process.

The fourth step of small scale palm oil refining process is oil deodorization. Palm oil deodorization is a process of distilling deodorized substances by steam distillation under high temperature and high vacuum, which takes advantage of the difference between the volatilization of odorous substances in oil and triglyceride. The principle of deodorization by steam distillation (also known as stripping) is that water vapor is saturated by the volatile odorous components through the contact of oil containing odorous components and vapor-liquid surfaces, and escapes at the ratio of partial pressure, thus achieving the purpose of deodorizing odorous components.
